Memorize a Poem

This is the first poem I've memorized since one the about star-crossed lovers. During my search for a poem, I read about some guy who "doesn't need an Ipod" because he would rather memorize poems...I'm still looking for something other than an Ipod as well.

Invictus

by William Ernest Henley; 1849-1903

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

  1. Alex,

My first attempt to post a comment was unsuccessful. Maybe that is my thing to learn today - how not to get screwed by the computer again.

Here is the abbreviated version of my first comment:
    - sweet blog dude.
    - some posts are sort of boring but others are great.
    - looking forward to Feb, 4. I don't think it counts if you buy your sister a drink even though she is a girl. Besides, that would be a little weird. It would also be a little weird if you brought your sister along to make a video of you buying a girl a drink. Oh, boy am I looking forward to Feb. 4. The suspense has me on the edge of the seat of my pants.
    - your mission from the Schloss, should you choose to accept it is to learn Rubenstein's Revenge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFNdC0f1ndY&feature=related there are other tutorials out there, but this one has the best music and facial expressions. If this is too advanced for you, then you should just learn to juggle.
    - another thing you should learn is how to balance a folding chair on your face (easier than it sounds, trust me)
    - you could also learn how to eat fire (also easier than it sounds - again, trust me)
    - in your post about making a budget, why did you write as if you were a budget making expert for your interested reader when, in fact, you were apparently making your first budget ever.

  2. -I'm guessing is this is David. Thanks for the comments, constructive criticisms, and suggestions.
-I know some posts aren't very interesting (see above) for the reader. Originally, and I'm still hoping that people would learn/do some of the stuff with me and either comment about their experiences or make a guest post (let me know if anyone would like to make one).
-I'll add Rubenstein's Revenge to the list. I already know how to juggle so this might only take a couple weeks to learn. The others are good ideas but I'm thinking of saving those for when I'm in Albania (safety issues here).
-In the post about making a budget, I've never actually made a budget for myself (and I still didn't in my post). With that said, I do know a little bit about personal finance and was just adding some tips for the readers (should they decide to make a budget as well).
-Regarding Feb 4: it has the potential to be a great post or an utterly weak one. We'll see what happens.

  3. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Don't take the constructive criticisms as too critical. You're job is not to entertain or interest all internet users. Your job is to learn something each and every day. And that, my friend, is a commendable thing to be doing.

Oh, and by the way, that view that you expressed in the puff the magic dragon video, was that a view of the Peace Corps or the US Government?

  4. I welcome the criticism. It's more helpful than not saying anything. Thanks

Puff! is not a view the of either organization but this video once was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jokV8xlJTNE&feature=related
